Social Collaboration Section Activities

The Japan Consortium for Area Studies (JCAS) is defined as a conference/action body, encompassing a vast range of academic communities and aiming to promote new types of area studies to address today's global issues, and share the study results widely with society. The JCAS Social Collaboration Section is devoted to social engagements through knowledge and resources available to individual member organizations; a field exclusive to JCAS, with a diverse and unique membership including  research/educational institutes, NGOs/NPOs and learned societies with a keen interest in various global regions.

-- Collaboration Between Research/Educational Institutes and NGOs/NPOs

Intensive brainstorming sessions held at the Social Collaboration Section, seeking the most effective means of social engagement through collaboration among diverse JCAS members have finally found the answer: Collaboration between research/educational organizations and NGOs/NPOs. This collaboration can ensure specialized knowledge in global regions to be contributed to society; and Japanese communities actively engaged in various global areas and fully enjoying local life. Specific collaboration activities include the joint organization of study groups, symposiums and the mutual exchange of human resources, as shown below:

  1. Joint Organization of Study Groups/Symposiums on Emergency/Development Project Support
  2. Short-/Long-term Dispatch of Researchers to NGOs/NPOs (e.g. in the case of emergency/development support, activity evaluation, or the provision of specialized knowledge is required)
  3. Creation of a Dispatch Registration System to Prepare Researcher Dispatch Support for NGO/NPO Emergency/Development Projects
  4. Effective Use of Experiences at NGOs/NPOs by Research/Educational Members
